ONTARIO SEARCH AND RESCUE VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATION is the Governing body for Volunteer Search and Rescue teams within the Province of Ontario and is the liaison between the OPP, NSS, EMO and the Volunteer SAR teams.
The
organization is comprised of six board
members that represent
the
volunteer SAR teams within each of the six
OPP designated regions for
Ontario.
OSARVA is
also responsible for the instruction and
certification of
the "Basic Searcher" status as initiated and mandated by the OPP.
People of the community who bring their talents together to form
teams across the Province to assist the Police in their efforts to find
someone who is lost or injured and bring the victim to safety.
To assist the Police in a “Volunteer Capacity” with trained personnel
so as to conduct a Search effectively and efficiently with the ultimate
goal of saving lives.
To raise funds for the training of its members and purchase of
equipment used for Search and Rescue operations.
To help establish Volunteer teams throughout the Province where the
call volume dictates it necessary.
To establish and conduct prevention programs to lessen the
Number of SAR calls in Ontario.
To educate the public about Search and Rescue volunteers.
